Computer Science at MITS, Gwalior or Metallurgy at NIT, Raipur? Which college should I opt for?

Dear Sudhanshu,

If none of the courses – Computer Science or Metallurgy excites you, then I suggest that you go for B.Tech in Metallurgy in NIT. Reason being, NIT is a much-reputed college as compared to MITS. If your future ambition includes doing an MBA, then really, having a good college in your CV will amp up your chances.

However, if you want to pursue a career in engineering in your future, then selecting a course that holds your interest is best.

Hi Purbita,

Having just a BA (Hons) in History is not enough for a successful career. You will have to develop your various skills on the way to graduation and that will get you somewhere. Social Sciences and History, in particular, is not a job-oriented field and if you seek a job after three years of degree/formal education solely on its basis, do not opt for it, please go for other courses like Economics or Commerce or English. Or you need get a specialisation or a Masters degree to have a thriving career. Having said that, you can work as

· Archeologist

· Research Assistant

· Art Restorer

· Museum Curator

· Archivist

· Teacher

· Researcher

My score in Class 12 board is 85 percent. My rank in Indraprastha University Common Entrance Test (IPU CET) is 13380. Are my marks good enough to apply in DU for B.Sc or should I opt for B.Tech from an IP College?

Dear Alok,

Please take admission in IP college ASAP and secure a seat. DU will come out with consecutive cut-off lists. So you can keep checking those. As of 30 June 2018, DU had announced its third cut-off list, and on the basis of that, some colleges like Aryabhatta College, Ram Lal Anand College, Pannalal Girdharlal Dayanand Anglo Vedic College, etc were giving admission in B.Sc Computer Science with percentage in the higher 80s.

So keep checking, and we are sure that the percentages will drop further. But as a back-up, please take admission, while you can.

I want to know about the M.Pharm programmes of Jamia Hamdard, Poona College of Pharmacy and Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra. I need to know more about the placement statistics of these colleges.

If given a choice, we will suggest you to opt for BIT Mesra, amongst the three. The reason being, its infrastructure for research and industry connect for placement is the best. In fact, it has been ranked 10th in Teaching, learning and resources (TLR) and Research, professional practice and collaborative performance (RPC) and 13th in Overall by National Institutional Ranking Framework 2018, Ministry of Human Resource Development, Government of India in the Pharmacy category.
