After two days and several hours of questioning, AIADMK (Sasikala) faction leader TTV Dhinakaran has admitted that he knew middleman Sukesh Chandrasekar, says Delhi police.

Though initially, Dhinakaran had refused to acknowledge he knew Sukesh, he later claimed that the latter had approached him and pretended to be a High Court judge. Dhinakaran told investigators that Sukesh had offered help to bribe Election Commission officials in the ‘two leaves’ symbol case, he had however not responded to the offer.

A source in the Delhi police said that Dhinakaran later admitted to meeting Sukesh. An FIR had been lodged last week against the two for attempting to bribe officials of the Election Commission to ensure that Sasikala faction got a favourable verdict in the party symbol case.

On Monday, investigators confronted Sukesh and Dhinakaran. When Sukesh spilled the beans about the details of his meeting with Dhinakaran, the AIADMK leader was forced to acknowledge that he knew Sukesh, says Delhi police.

However, the police team will have to prove the motive for the meeting and the source of the money that was seized from Sukesh.

Fifteen people, including Sukesh’s friend, model-turned-actor Leena Paul, were questioned by the police.

On Monday night, an unexpected visitor turned up at the Crime Branch office of Delhi police. B Kumar, a senior advocate who had represented Jayalalithaa in almost all her cases, was summoned by the police for his statement. Kumar, who also handled Jayalalithaa’s Disproportionate Assets case, is also TTV Dhinakaran’s lawyer in the FERA case against him.

Kumar will be questioned on Tuesday again.

While the investigation progresses in New Delhi, the merger talks between O Panneerselvam and Edapadi Palaniswamy have hit a dead end in Chennai.
