Each one of us want to double our money, but often lack the know-how. There are so many questions on personal finance that crop up in our minds, but we lack proper guidance to follow it through. As a result, we may end up investing in the wrong places or buy unfavourable policies. But not anymore!

The Quint, with personal finance expert Gaurav Mashruwala, will answer all your queries in a new show – Dhan Ki Baat.

In the first episode, Mashruwala brings to you easy steps on what everyone wants to know: How does one make more money?

The first step, he says, is to make your ‘my GDP list’, where GDP stands for Goals and Dreams Plan. That will give you a clear idea on how you should make those extra bucks.

People Want to Make Money, But Don't Exactly Know Why

Everyone wants to earn more money, but when asked why they want to, they generally don't know.

Even fewer people have made a list of their wishes and responsibilities for which they want or need to make more money.

Those who don’t work for their own goals, end up working for other people’s financial goals.

A GDP list will help you work towards your own goals. Follow these steps:

1. Determine your responsibilities and your wishes for which you want to make extra money

2. Take a selfie (with your family) and list your wishes and responsibilities next to it. That’s a GDP selfie.

GDP: Goals, Dreams and Plan

Keeping this GDP in mind, you can work on achieving your financial independence.

“If you don’t have your finances planned, you can face problems in the future. We want financial independence, but we can’t get it because we did not make our GDP,” he says.

Gaurav Mashruwala advises that one shouldn’t invest depending on where others have invested. They should invest keeping their own GDP in mind.

(The Quint, in association with BitGiving, has launched a crowdfunding campaign for an 8-month-old who was raped in Delhi on 28 January 2018. The baby girl, who we will refer to as 'Chhutki', was allegedly raped by her 28-year-old cousin when her parents were away. She has been discharged from AIIMS hospital after undergoing three surgeries, but needs more medical treatment in order to heal completely. Her parents hail from a low-income group and have stopped going to work so that they can take care of the baby. You can help cover Chhutki's medical expenses and secure her future. Every little bit counts. Click here to donate.)
