Indian equity benchmarks closed in red on Wednesday, 11 November.

While BSE Sensex dropped 248 points to end at 40,100, NSE Nifty 50 slipped 77 points to close at 11,836 as of 3:20 pm.

The market breadth was tilted in favour of sellers. About 1,047 stocks declined and 726 shares advanced on National Stock Exchange.

In the opening trade, Indian equity benchmarks had fluctuated between gains and losses.

Yes Bank, GAIL, Zee Entertainment, Adani Ports and SBI were among major losers on the Nifty, while gainers were Britannia Industries, TCS, Reliance Industries, Nestle and Bajaj Finserv, according the moneycontrol.

Among sectors, except energy, all other sectoral indices ended in the red led by the bank, metal, pharma, infra, FMCG and IT.

Meanwhile, the Indian rupee extended the morning losses and trading at day's low level at 71.97 per dollar against Monday's close of 71.46.
