Closing Bell: Sensex Inches Lower to 37,060, Nifty Below 11,000

The Indian rupee opened higher by 25 paise at Rs 71.45 per dollar.

Markets closed lower on Wednesday, 21 August, continuing its decline for the second session in a row. BSE Sensex fell as much as 0.72 percent to 37,060 and NSE Nifty 50 declined as much as 0.89 percent to close at 10,918.70.

The broader markets represented by the NSE Nifty 500 Index fell 1.04 percent.

The Indian indices had opened on a flat note on Wednesday, with Sensex at 37,308.37 points and Nifty just above 11,006 points.

The Indian rupee had opened higher by 25 paise at Rs 71.45 per dollar.
