Indian equity benchmarks on Thursday, 27 November closed at record highs helped by investors pumping in money in the final hour of trade. The S&P BSE Sensex rose 0.49 percent to 41,020.61 at close while the NSE Nifty 50 advanced 0.52 percent to 12,100.70. The broader markets represented by the NSE Nifty 500 index rose 0.54 percent.
Markets on Thursday witnessed yet another strong opening as both Sensex and Nifty went up by half a percent in morning trade.
The 30-share BSE index gained more than 150 points to open at 40,979.39, while the broader 50-share NSE index consolidated above the key 12,000-mark.
All sectoral sub-indices were trading in the green in morning trade with Nifty Metal and Nifty IT gaining the most.
Short covering ahead of the expiry of November derivatives contracts on Thursday is also contributing to the rally, traders said.
Foreign institutional investors bought shares worth Rs 4,677.75 crore in the capital market in the previous session, while domestic institutional investors sold equities worth Rs 4,242.01 crore, data available with stock exchange showed.
Elsewhere in Asia, bourses in Shanghai, Hong Kong, Seoul and Tokyo were trading on a positive note amid hopes of a breakthrough in the trade logjam between the US and China.
Stocks on Wall Street ended in the green on Tuesday.
