Closing Bell: Sensex Dives 623.75 Points, Nifty Slips by 183.80

Sensex dived 623.75 points on Tuesday, 13 August to end at 36,958.16 while Nifty slipped 183.80 points to 10,925.85.

Equity markets opened with gains on Tuesday but slipped into the red almost immediately in the morning trade.

30-share BSE Sensex opened at 37,755.16, up 173.25 points but could not hold on to the gains and was down more than 100 points after the initial 15 minutes of trading. The broader 50-share NSE Nifty too was down almost half a percent.

Markets faced a meltdown in the last week before regaining some ground on Friday, the last day of trading. On Monday, the markets were closed on the occasion of Eid-ul-Azha.

All the sectoral sub-indices were in the red on Tuesday morning with Nifty FMCG and Nifty Financial Services losing the most.

Reliance, ONGC and Yes Bank were among the top gainers while NTPC, Bharti Airtel and Mahindra & Mahindra were losing the most.
