Indian equity indices fluctuated between gains and losses in the opening trade after gaining for seven consecutive trading sessions, with the S&P BSE Sensex rising as much as 0.41 percent to 40,466.55 on Tuesday, 5 November.
The NSE Nifty 50 rose as much as 0.32 percent to 11,978.95. The broader markets represented by the NSE Nifty 500 Index rose 0.11 percent.

Meanwhile, the rupee opened lower against the US dollar, with the home currency depreciating as much as 0.11 percent to 70.84 against the greenback.
