The Centre informed the Supreme Court that it would soon initiate court proceedings and approach the British government to extradite Vijay Mallya from Britain, according to a report in The Times of India.

On Tuesday, the Supreme Court directed that the details of the assets owned by Vijay Mallya’s family be made available to the banks as per the law.

Vijay Mallya’s lawyer, on his part, has confirmed to the court that he has no instruction on when Mallya is expected to return to India. He also added that the banks’ intention was no longer just to recover money but also to see Mallya in jail.

The consortium of banks told the Supreme Court that Vijay Mallya is a fugitive from justice and that he must come to the court.

Mukul Rohtagi, Attorney General of India told the court that Mallya cannot claim the privilege of not disclosing details of his assets abroad.

This was in response to the affidavit sent by Mallya stating that the banks had no right over the information of the overseas movable and immovable assets owned by him or his family since they are NRIs.

Mallya has failed to comply with the Supreme Court orders. Centre will take steps available under law.
