After Priyanka Chopra, actors Kangana Ranaut and Bipasha Basu have accused jewellery brand Gitanjali Gems for breach of contract and non-payment of full fees. Ranaut and Basu had been signed up to endorse Gitanjali’s brands Nakshatra and Gili respectively. Gitanjali Gems is promoted by Mehul Choksi, who along with nephew Nirav Modi, has been accused of defrauding Punjab National Bank in a Rs 11,000-crore scam.
In a statement to Economic Times, Ranaut’s spokesperson said:
“There are outstandings due on Kangana’s Nakshatra endorsement, beyond the stipulated contract.”Kangana Ranaut’s spokesperson
Ranaut became the brand ambassador of Nakshatra diamonds in 2016.
Basu, who was signed as Gili’s brand ambassador in 2008, said the company continued to use her pictures after the contract was over, even though being repeatedly asked not to do so.
“My managers then tried their best to stop Gili from using my pictures post my contractual period... but even though we sent them letters, they continued to use my pictures internationally too, because of which I lost many jewellery endorsements. Post my contract, for a couple of years till now, Gili used my pics even though legally they can’t.”Bipasha Basu
Priyanka Chopra, the global brand ambassador for Nirav Modi, is currently seeking legal opinion to terminate her contract with the jeweller.
Actors like Katrina Kaif, Aishwarya Rai and Salman Khan have been ambassadors of these brands. Kriti Sanon is currently Gili’s face.
