Hotel and housing chain OYO Hotels on Thursday, 15 November, appointed Aditya Ghosh as the the company’s India and South Asia Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

In April, Ghosh had resigned as the IndiGo President, triggering speculations in the industry.

In an official statement by OYO, the chain said that the appointment comes as “a part of the company’s efforts to continue to invest in and attract world-class leadership, in the wake of its focus to drive accelerated growth in its home markets – India and China".

“With Aditya taking on this mantle for one of our home markets, India and the broader South Asia region, we are confident that he will be able to help OYO Hotels set new benchmarks,” said Ritesh Agarwal, Founder & Group CEO, OYO Hotels & Homes.

Ghosh, who is a lawyer by training, said, I’m thrilled to join OYO’s mission of creating quality living spaces, and partner with Ritesh in shaping the company’s  future in South Asia.”

Experts have hinted at various reasons for Ghosh’s departure from the airlines earlier this year, including customer dissatisfaction, the decision to buy cheaper aircraft, the crisis over the engines that had promised fuel savings but resulted in grounded planes, and a courtroom battle, according to a Business Standard report.

In an interview to the Economic Times, however, Ghosh said that after 10 years at IndiGo, he was itching for something new and was getting ready for Aditya Ghosh 2.0.

Apart from turning the low-cost carrier to India’s largest airline, IndiGo also reported impressive profits under Ghosh. The company, in its last full quarter under Ghosh (October - December 2017), had seen its profit rise by 56 percent to Rs 762 crore.
