Students Ragged In a College In Odisha

First and second-year students were allegedly ragged by senior students during the welcome meet at Veer Surendra Sai University of Technology in Sambalpur, Odisha. Skill Development & Technical Education Minister Premanand Nayak has ordered a probe into the incident.

Odisha Cancels Students’ Union Elections

Odisha government on Thursday cancelled the annual students' union elections in the current year in colleges and universities across the state.

The state higher education department suggested nomination of students' representatives to various bodies in the institutions, as an alternative to elections.

A notification in this regard was issued by the department and copies of which were sent to vice chancellors of all universities and principals of all government colleges.

Man Held for Sodomising His Nepali Roommate in Delhi's Mukherjee Nagar

A 25-year-old Nepali citizen was allegedly sodomised by his roommate in Delhi’s Mukherjee Nargar area, police said on Thursday.

The incident took place on the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday, they said.

US Raps China for ‘Escalation’ in South China Sea

The United States on Thursday sharpened its criticism of China's activities in disputed areas of the South China Sea, slamming an "escalation" in efforts to intimidate other claimants" such as Vietnam.

China redeployed a government-owned survey vessel -- with armed escorts -- into the waters off Vietnam earlier this month, the US said.

Hanoi says those waters are part of its Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).
