Nirav Modi's Remand Extended Till 19 September

Fugitive diamond merchant Nirav Modi, wanted in India in connection with the nearly USD 2 billion Punjab National Bank (PNB) fraud and money laundering case, appeared before a UK court on Thursday via videolink from his London prison and was further remanded in judicial custody till 19 September.

The routine “call-over” hearing in the 48-year-old's extradition case at Westminster Magistrates' Court was presided over by Judge Tan Ikram, who told Modi that his trial dates would be confirmed at the next call-over hearing on September 19, when he will again appear via videolink.

A girl was held for defaming her classmate through fake Facebook posts in Jammu district, police officer told PTI on Thursday.

"A complaint was received from a girl that a fake Facebook profile has been made and vulgar and defamatory messages are being posted on it," the officer reportedly said.

These vulgar messages were sent to her fiancée with whom she got engaged a few months ago, he said.

During the investigation by the cyber cell, police tracked a girl who had made the fake profile and was posting the vulgar messages, he said.

24 IPS Officers Transferred in Haryana

Haryana Human Rights Commission Director General Prabhat Ranjan Deo was on Thursday posted as the state's Vigilance and Security wing's director general of police, in a major reshuffle of IPS officers in the state.

The Enforcement Directorate has attached properties worth over Rs 19 lakh of a man booked under the anti-money laundering law for allegedly duping people by promising them secure admission in an Uttarakhand medical college, an official told PTI on Thursday.

Rohit Singh Chauhan is being probed for cheating people to the tune of Rs 1.29 crore by dishonestly inducing them in getting admission in post-graduation courses under the management quota in HIHT Medical College, Dehradun, the official reportedly said.

Man Scales Mumbai Airport Wall and Walks Up to Plane, Arrested By CISF

A man was arrested by the CISF after he scaled a wall of the Mumbai airport on Thursday and walked up to a SpiceJet plane on the runway that was readying for take off, a senior official of the aviation regulator DGCA told PTI.

"The pilots of the SpiceJet plane showed presence of mind and immediately shut down the engines to avert any accident when they saw the man walking up the plane that was standing on runway 27," said the official.

At the time of the incident, the SpiceJet plane SG634 was reportedly readying to take off for Bengaluru.
