India on Thursday, 4 June, recorded the highest single-day spike of 9,304 new COVID-19 cases, taking the tally in the country to more than 2.16 lakh. According to the Union Health Ministry figures, the death toll in the country stands at 6,075, while 1,04,106 patients have been cured or discharged.

Maharashtra on Thursday reported the highest number of deaths in a single day with 123 fatalities, taking the death toll to 2,710. As many as 2,933 new COVID-19 cases were reported, taking the tally in the state to 77,793. Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu reported 1,384 new coronavirus cases and 12 deaths in the highest single-day spike, taking the tally in the state to 27,256 and the death toll to 220.

The Health Ministry on Thursday also issued the SOPs on preventive measures to be taken in hotels, shopping malls, restaurants and places of worship to contain the spread of COVID-19. This comes days ahead of the re-opening of these places on 8 June, as specified by the Home Ministry in its guidelines under Unlock 1.0.

Around 38,000 More People Expected to Be Repatriated: MEA

Over 1.07 lakh stranded Indians have returned to the country from abroad since the government launched the 'Vande Bharat' evacuation mission on 7 May, the Ministry of External Affairs said on Thursday, reported PTI.

Around 38,000 more people are expected to be repatriated in 337 flights from 31 countries, it added.
