The BJP on Wednesday urged the vice chancellor of Delhi University to make 70 percent domicile reservations or provide three to five percent grace marks for students of Delhi-origin during the admission process to the varsity.
BJP MP Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma and the party MLA Manjinder Singh Sirsa met VC Yogesh Tyagi on Wednesday and apprised of situations in which Delhi-based students were getting "disadvantaged".
Students from neighbouring states are getting seats in Delhi colleges because of high percentage secured in higher secondary exams which is solely due to liberal markings, while Delhi students are unable to get through because of strict marking system.Manjinder Singh Sirsa, MLA, Rajouri Garden
Sirsa said the “disadvantaged” students were forced to shell out large sums while seeking admissions in private universities in other states.
The BJP leaders also said the VC also promised to arrange for a meeting with admissions committee of the varsity where they could present their case.
