2. Bihar CM Nitish Kumar Wins Trust Vote With 131 Votes

Two days after he dramatically embraced the BJP, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Friday proved his majority in the Bihar assembly while the RJD protested in the house during the confidence vote.

Contrary to fears, no cross-voting took place during the show of strength. Janata Dal-United (JD-U) leader Nitish Kumar sailed through with 131 votes in his favour and 108 against. Soon after the assembly met, Nitish Kumar moved a resolution to seek a trust vote.

3. Nawaz Sharif Resigns as Pakistan PM After Panamagate Verdict

Nawaz Sharif resigned as Pakistan Prime Minister after the country’s Supreme Court disqualified him over the Panamagate case on 28 July. Sharif has been accused of being involved in money laundering to buy assets in London in the 1990s.

The five-judge bench, which voted 5-0, was headed by Justice Asif Saeed Khosa – the judge who, in his 20 April judgement, had referenced the famous quote from Mario Puzo’s novel Godfather: “Behind every great fortune there is a crime.”

"He is no more eligible to be an honest member of the parliament, and he ceases to be holding the office of prime minister," Judge Ejaz Afzal Khan said in court on 28 July.

4. Here’s The Complete Roundup of Pro Kabaddi League 2017

The fifth season of the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) will begin on 28 July. The tournament will be a 13-week long extravaganza, with each of the 12 host cities holding individual opening ceremonies.

In the new format, 12 teams have been divided into two zones of six teams each, where each of them will play 15 intra-zone and seven inter-zone matches before the play-offs. There are four additions to the league this season, including the Gujarat Fortunegiants, Haryana Steelers, UP Yoddha and Tamil Thalaivas.

The play-offs stage will comprise three qualifiers and two eliminators, which are scheduled to take place in Mumbai and Chennai.

This time around, the winners will walk away with Rs 8 crore – a massive jump from Pro Kabaddi league season 4, where the winners were awarded Rs 2 crore in prize money.

5. Galle Test: Kohli, Mukund Guide India to a 498-Run Lead on Day 3

India rode on half centuries from skipper Virat Kohli and opener Abhinav Mukund to post 189/3 in their second innings and extend their lead to 498 at stumps on the third day of the opening Test against Sri Lanka at Galle on Friday.

Joining forces after the early departure of the centurions in the first innings – Shikhar Dhawan (14) and Cheteshwar Pujara (15); Kohli (76*) and Mukund (81) put on 133 runs for the third wicket as India found themselves in a commanding position.
