1. Reliance AGM: Free Jio 4G VoLTE Feature Phone Launched

India's wealthiest man Mukesh Ambani announced the launch of Jio "intelligent" phone, offering life-long free voice calls bundled with 4G data streaming at an "effective price of zero".

Ambani, who had taken the telecom sector by surprise with free voice calls and data last year, announced the next leap at the company's 40th shareholder meeting.

The phone, targeted at 50 crore feature phone users in the country, will be available for pre-booking from 24 August on payment of a refundable security deposit of Rs 1,500. This deposit will be refunded after 36 months on return of the phone, he said, adding that the price of the phone will be "effective zero".

2. Harmanpreet’s Unbeaten 171 Guides India to Record Total vs Aus

Harmanpreet Kaur smashed a career-best 171 not out to lead India to a massive 281 for four against Australia in the semi-final of the ICC Women's World Cup, in Derby on Thursday.

Kaur’s parents Sukhjeet Kaur and Harmander Singh Bhullar said that their daughter made them proud after she played a scintillating innings.

When asked about the people behind her success, the all rounder’s mother Sukhjeet said that Harmander Singh (father) helped her a lot to become a cricketer.

However, Harmander Singh said that, Harmanpreet’s coach Kamaldeesh Singh Sodhi is the one who should be credited for her success.

4. Shankarsinh Vaghela Quits Congress, Says Not Joining BJP

In a jolt to the Congress in poll-bound Gujarat, its sulking leader Shankarsinh Vaghela quit the party, but made it clear that he had no plans to join the BJP or any other political party.

The stalwart of Gujarat politics announced his plan to break ranks with the Congress, which he had joined two decades back after quitting the BJP, at a rally of his supporters to mark his 77th birthday.

He also announced that he would immediately resign as the Leader of Opposition in the Gujarat Assembly and give up his membership of the House after the Rajya Sabha polls in the state scheduled for 8 August.

Vaghela's move comes close on the heels of cross-voting by Gujarat Congress MLAs in the 17 July presidential election.
