Former finance minister Yashwant Sinha on Tuesday said the present PDP-BJP government in Jammu and Kashmir had failed to follow Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s vision of insaniyat & jamhooriat. Speaking to news agency ANI, Sinha lamented how the alliance’s agenda had outlined inclusive talks, but failed to establish a dialogue with stakeholders like the Hurriyat – one of the many separatist voices in the Valley.

Sinha, who had led political delegations to the conflict-ridden state in 2016, said the government needs to identify all major stakeholders. Stone-pelters too, he asserted, must be engaged in constructive dialogue. According to him, continuing unrest in the state is a fallout of unfulfilled promises.

Urging for immediate talks in the state, Sinha noted that the crisis in Kashmir is a political one, the solution to which cannot be military presence.
