The Noida police on Thursday said that the complaint lodged by a 20-year-old Kenyan woman which stated that she had been pulled out of a cab and assaulted in Greater Noida, has found to be false.

The Kenyan national, Maria Burendi, was not assaulted and the report she lodged was false, Noida Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Dharmendra Yadav said at a press conference in Noida.

Police officials produced Pintu, the driver of the cab in which the woman had travelled, to corroborate their claim.

The cab driver said that he had dropped Burendi in Greater Noida and had not witnessed any attack.

At the press conference, the Noida SSP also said that there were no injury marks on the woman’s body to support her version either.

A police control room (PCR) van stood just a few metres from the location of the alleged assault, but the police personnel in the van did not see any attack take place, the police officer said.

The woman had called a police chowki in-charge whose number she had taken earlier in the morning and complained about the assault, the SSP said.

He added that when the police personnel reached Ivory hospital, they were told that doctors were not treating her.

Burendi was then taken to Kailash hospital, from where too she was soon discharged, Yadav said.

The SSP claimed that the lady may have been slapped by Nigerian friends and not local youths.

A Kenya Embassy official too said the woman was under tension due to family problems and had fabricated the assault story.

African Students Welfare Association president Charles said:

The Kenyan national had given a false statement. It has been proved. Police has been providing security to us.

Burendi had earlier in her complaint said that she was travelling in an Ola cab when unknown persons stopped the vehicle, pulled her out and thrashed her.

The allegation came close on the heels of an attack on African students and the police had promptly registered an FIR based on her complaint.

On Wednesday, Burendi had alleged that she was assaulted by a cab driver in Greater Noida. She had claimed that she was dragged out of the car and kicked in the abdomen by the driver, without any provocation from her side.

Additionally, last week, two Nigerian men were beaten with metal dustbins in a Greater Noida mall.
