Where Was She Bleeding From, Bihar MLA Asks Rape Victim’s Friend

The insensitivity shown by people in power towards victims of sexual violence is shocking.

After the crass statements from politicians on the Bengaluru mass molestation case, a sitting MLA from Bihar Lalan Singh was seen asking insensitive and uncomfortable questions to a girl whose friend was found murdered.

The minister who is from BJP-ally Rashtriya Lok Samata Party can be seen on camera asking the girl, “How can you tell she was raped… Where was blood coming from?”.

A class 10 student was found dead on Sunday in a government-run hostel with her clothes soaked in blood. Paswan decide to investigate the matter himself.

The lawmaker, during his investigation, asks the girls, "If you don't tell us clearly, what will you do tomorrow if it (rape) happens to you? If the rapist comes to your room, what will happen then?"

The lawmaker also alleges that the girls in the hostel were involved with boys and also suggests that even the teachers might have helped the attacker access the girl’s quarters.

Later on, he tries to defend himself by saying that he wanted to help the girls out. He said that though his method was wrong, his intentions were pure.

"My intention was to help the girls of the Dalit residential school and in that spirit I was seeking information about the incident... media showed the video by concocting it," he told the Press Trust of India.
