The 1 July rollout of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) was met with a host of reactions on Twitter. Some expressed confusion, a handful few sought to explain GST while others shared memes by the dozen. Like several other social media users, socialite and columnist Shobha De took to Twitter to share the photo of a restaurant bill.

She tweeted a photo of a bill from a branch of Murugan Idli, the popular restaurant franchise, and captioned it “ GST ke side effects. Unaffordable idlis”.
While there may be some truth to the fact that GST has made breakfast more expensive, it doesn’t take Sherlock to tell the difference between idli and pongal.
And since nothing escapes Twitter, De’s mentions is now flooded with responses.
