Prince Harry’s biggest fan, Daphne Dunne, passed away in Australia on Monday. The 99-year-old, who had won the heart of Prince Harry on several royal tours of Australia, was in hospital, suffering from pneumonia for last two months, reported Hello Magazine.
Ms. Dunne called herself Prince Harry’s 'biggest fan' when he visited Australia. On several occasions the prince would stop to chat to his elderly supporter, crouching down to reach Ms Dunne, who was in a wheelchair.
War widow Daphne Dunne, who stole the hearts of many during her brushes with the Royal Family, has passed away after a two-month battle with pneumonia.
According to The Sydney Morning Herald, Dunne first drew Prince Harry's attention in 2015, when the young royal spotted her wearing a Victoria Cross, which had been earned by her first husband Albert Chowne in World War II.
The Victoria Cross is awarded for gallantry and is the highest honour that can be awarded to Commonwealth troops - it was awarded to Lieutenant Chowne posthumously after his actions near Dagua, New Guinea in March 1945. 96 Australians have received the award.
On her 99th birthday, Meghan and Harry sent her a personalised letter of good wishes.
The letter read:
Dear Daphne, My wife and I send our warmest wishes to you on the occasion of your 99th birthday on Friday. We hope you have a wonderful celebration surrounded by family and friends and that you’ve managed to escape hospital. Congratulations on reaching this important and impressive milestone before your centenary year next year. Happy birthday, Daphne. Dunner’s family announced her sad demise via Instagram.
