A software engineer has been arrested for allegedly creating a fake Twitter handle of Sara Tendulkar, daughter of cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar, and uploading malicious content against NCP chief Sharad Pawar, police said on Thursday.

Nitin Shisode, 39, was arrested two days ago by the cyber police, Akbar Pathan, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Cyber Crime) said.

During interrogation, it emerged that the Andheri resident also created fake Twitter accounts of some Bollywood personalities. The Cyber Crime cell sleuths also seized a laptop, two mobile phones and routers from Shisode's residence, he added.

Shisode has been booked for impersonation, cheating and defamation under IPC and the IT Act.

He was produced before a local court and has been remanded to police custody till 9 February.

Shishode’s advocate, however, told Times of India that his client was being framed.

“My client deals in second-hand computers and laptops. Though he told the police that somebody who bought a laptop from him may have uploaded the derogatory remarks, the police refused to listen and arrested him,” he said.

In October last year, there was a tweet from Sara Tendulkar's fake account, containing derogatory remarks about Pawar. An offence had been registered at Cyber Police station based on the complaint of Tendulkar's personal assistant, a police officer said.

Tendulkar's aide said in the complaint that somebody created a fake Twitter account of Sara Tendulkar, who is studying in London. As reported by Times of India, he also said that Sachin had been shocked by the fake account and had reacted against it on several occasions.

Police traced the IP address from which the comment was posted to Shisode's house in Andheri, the police officer added.

After going through the derogatory remarks and finding that it was a fake handle, we registered an offence and traced the IP address to Sishode’s house in Andheri. With technical help, we also got confirmation that a particular router was used by Sishode.
