Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party chief and former cricketer Imran Khan tied the knot for the third time with his spiritual guide Bushra Maneka in a low-key ceremony in Lahore.
The photos, released by PTI's media wing, show Khan, 65, in nikah photos with his newest wife:
Last month, media reports quoted Khan as saying:
I would like to reiterate that every time I met her, with family and alone, she has been in purdah (veil). My interest in her lies in the fact that I have not seen or met anyone with her level of spirituality.Imran Khan
Twitter ended up divided over if the purdah, whether voluntary or not, is violative of women’s rights.
Glorifying the Purdah a Sexist Proposition?
On the Other Hand, Freedom of Choice?
Is Imran Khan trying to ditch his past ‘playboy’ image with his multiple wives, and cultivate a more religious, conservative one for political ends through virtue-signalling via his new wife?
(The Quint, in association with BitGiving, has launched a crowdfunding campaign for an 8-month-old who was raped in Delhi on 28 January 2018. The baby girl, who we will refer to as 'Chhutki', was allegedly raped by her 28-year-old cousin when her parents were away. She has been discharged from AIIMS hospital after undergoing three surgeries, but needs more medical treatment in order to heal completely. Her parents hail from a low-income group and have stopped going to work so that they can take care of the baby. You can help cover Chhutki's medical expenses and secure her future. Every little bit counts. Click here to donate.)
