Narendra Modi is India’s first prime minister... Say what? Err, no. We haven’t lost our minds, but we almost did when we spotted this:
If you swear by Google search, then this should teach you to exercise some restraint. Google sensei has made a rather embarrassing faux pas this time around. On 25 April, a number of people pointed out that a simple Google search of the phrase “India’s first prime minister” threw up a portrait of PM Narendra Modi, bizarrely accompanied by a short description of Jawaharlal Nehru – India’s first Prime Minister.
The purported “technical glitch” did not go down too well with social media users:
While some facepalmed at Google lack’s general knowledge, others sniffed out conspiracy theories.
Meanwhile, someone wondered why...
Some netizens attempted to seek answers from Google, by tagging the search giant. Others put forward their own theories:
Damage Control
In an ideal world, a silly glitch like this would not cause any problems at all, but at a time when fake news and misinformation is costing us dear, this is certainly something to be concerned about.
Google seems to have realised this too. As off 11 am IST on 26 April, the search giant got its act together and removed PM Modi’s photo from the descriptor of Jawaharlal Nehru.
