Facebook Leaves India Out on World Emoji Map, Clarifies Stance

On Thursday, a Facebook spokesperson clarified why India was not on the map, saying: “Our emoji infographic reflects our data on the top countries that have the highest volume of emoji use on www (both mobile web and desktop, but not the FB mobile app). While India is one of Facebook’s largest markets, India is not one of the top ten countries that use emoji on www. However, India is one of the top countries to use emoji on Messenger.”

Turns out World Emoji Day wasn’t ‘all that happy’ for Mark Zuckerberg. On World Emoji Day, 17 July, Zuckerberg took to the social network to post a graphic of the world’s most popular emojis.

That’s right. He left India off the list. So when the world was rejoicing over the popularity of the ‘Face With Tears of Joy’ emoji and the lovestruck emoji, Indians were probably thinking:
