Kejriwal, isn’t it funny how you began your talk with a cough, rather than about an epidemic that killed nearly 27?

Meri Awaaz Hi Pehchaan Hai!

And Arvind Kejriwal did exactly that on Sunday evening when he got his voice back. Kejriwal, who was silently missing from all the action in Delhi while he was recuperating in Bangalore from tongue surgery, appealed to the political parties to unite and get their best insect repellant act together to fight against chikungunya and dengue.

The three-minute long video could best be described as a Gujarati thali that you order in a restaurant – a little bit of everything. Throw in a bit of promotional tadka, a pinch of blame-game and an ounce of self-pity and tadaaaa, you have an already-heard-before Arvind Kejriwal speech in a nutshell.

Why Justify Your Absence?

Kejriwal, isn’t it funny how you began your talk with a cough, rather than about an epidemic that killed nearly 27?

Arvind Kejriwal’s ‘appealing skills’ atrophy into self-pity, and this time is no different. Kejriwal begins his video by explaining to the aam adami why he was silent for so long (‘cuz that’s so unlike him) and also prepared us by telling that we might not hear from him for a few more days (if we are lucky), as the doctor has prescribed him rest.

But Mr Kejriwal, isn’t it funny how you began your speech with a cough, rather than about an epidemic that has killed 27 people and hospitalised thousands in Delhi? Come on, Delhi deserves better!

Delhiites has had enough of politicians sucking her blood, and now they’ve got mosquitoes too to suck whatever is left of them. Let’s try not bug them anymore, shall we?

Once a Politician, Always a Politician

Kejriwal, isn’t it funny how you began your talk with a cough, rather than about an epidemic that killed nearly 27?

Any publicity is good publicity and it seems like Kejriwal swears by that. The Chief Minister, who is the only one basking in his own glory of the odd-even scheme, never fails to bring up – even if he’s talking about a life-threatening disease.

What’s the connection between the two? Only Kejriwal knows, but what’s more important is that he keeps the odd-even flame burning – the only skill worth highlighting in his Chief Minister Curriculum Vitae and the key agenda to contest the next Delhi Legislative Elections. Hopefully, by then his party might get to rope in some mosquitoes as a thank you gesture by the insects for letting them breed in the Capital.

Blame-Game On, Machchar Gone. Or Not!

Kejriwal, isn’t it funny how you began your talk with a cough, rather than about an epidemic that killed nearly 27?

In his noticeably pained voice, Kejriwal unleashes his pre-loaded blame-game weapon of political destruction and shoots right at Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD). Kejriwal requests all parties to be sensitive towards the situation Delhiites are reeling under, and to stop politicking the issue but in the same breath, takes a dig at the MCD for failing to do its job.

Kejriwal talks about unity at a time of chikungunya, drawing an analogy between India and Pakistan cricket match. Someone, please tell him that we’ve got nothing to lose in a cricket match apart from falling a rank down on the points table, but here we’ve got lives at stake.

So Mr Kejriwal, until you grasp the severity of the situation, you cannot expect others to come forward to help, and unfortunately, no speech of yours can make them. I’m sorry, but you were better off as silent spectator.
