Three days short of completing a full year as India’s coach, Anil Kumble stepped down from the post. The BCCI released a formal statement on the matter, adding that the Cricket Advisory Committee had in fact endorsed an extension to his tenure.

However, apparently the former captain of Indian team had had enough.

In a short post on Twitter after his resignation, Kumble clarified that Virat Kohli had “reservations with my 'style' and about my continuing as the Head Coach” and therefore the decision to step down.

As the BCCI starts the search for a new coach, and the Indian cricket team start a tour of West Indies, the trolls start the regular trolling of all parties involved. There were a few tweets that could not simply go under the radar.

Reacting on the developments, Olympic gold-medallist Abhinav Bindra Tweeted, “My biggest teachers was coach Uwe. I hated him! But stuck with him for 20 years. He always told me things I did not want to hear.”

Uwe Riesterer was part of Bindra's support staff during his gold medal-winning outing at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and was also working with him at last year's Olympics where Bindra finished he finished 4th in the 10m air rifle event before calling it a day.

CWG gold medallist Jwala Gutta too had a few inputs, “Sometimes that’s the important part of training. I remember my sir doing the same... he still does it!!!”

Both players clearly referring to Virat’s perceived impertinence in the matter, after Anil Kumble finally confirmed the connection between the skipper and his resignation. Important to point out though, the skipper’s side of this entire debacle is yet to be known.

Maybe an autobiography some day.
