13 JU Students Accuse English Prof’s Son of Sexual Harassment

A student of English literature at the Jadavpur University of Kolkata in West Bengal spoke about sexual harassment by another student named Eklavya Chaudhuri, son of a professor at the complainant’s department.

After she spoke about her experience with Chaudhuri, 12 other women from the university came forward and shared their experience of facing sexual harassment by him.

Chaudhuri, son of Chandrayee Niyogi, Professor at Department of English at the Jadavpur University, was involved in a similar incident last year as well, according to Eye Art Collective.

The original Facebook post was deleted for not fitting “Community Guidelines” after repeatedly being reported. Several other victims had their accounts hacked and their messages and posts were deleted.

However, the art of screenshots has ensured the circulation of the posts and messages. Following are two of the screenshots that were circulated.

A girl named Janhabi Mukherjee was Chaudhuri’s accomplice who bullied and threatened the women further. The girl who spoke up about the harassment cited multiple incidents when Chaudhuri and Mukherjee, who studies at the Presidency University, targeted her on occasions like class presentations.

In the screenshots making the rounds, Mukherjee can be seen bullying the girls on online platforms as well. The online community, probably witness to the bullying, is now standing by the girls and has launched its own campaign against Chaudhuri.
