Shri Sharad Yadav has taken the word, ‘politically incorrect’ to a whole new level. Because not only is he a political figure, he is also highly incorrect, vis-a-vis women!

At a rally in Rajasthan, the minister said this about its Chief Minister, Vasundhara Raje.

Give her (Vasundhara Raje) some rest, she is tired and becoming fat.

Really Yadav saab? Body shaming the elected leader of a state and asking people not to vote for her because she is ‘fat’? That’s some ‘heavy’ duty misogyny!

And if India’s political leaders like yourself indulge in such sexist remarks about women’s weight, there is a ‘slim’ chance we will ever get to a place where women of this country are respected.

This isn’t Yadav’s first. In 1997, during a debate on the Women’s Reservation Bill, the minister remarked that “par-kati mahilayen” or short-haired women, couldn’t possibly represent women from rural areas.

Respected Sir, these are not the kind of ‘lengthy’ discussions we expect from our leaders in Parliament!

Oh, and by the way, just last year he had said that “If a daughter's honour is violated, her neighbourhood and her village lose their honour, but if a vote is sold, it is the country's honour that goes.”

I don’t know about that, but the only thing that is not an honour, IMO, is to hear this man speak.

Let’s all bear in mind that Yadav is no aam mantri. He is in fact, the founder and leader of Loktantrik Janata Dal, a political party freshly created in Bihar. Prior to this, he was a heavyweight in the JDU.

His Facebook page has about five lakh followers. It’s safe to assume each and every one of his remarks reach out to at least a fraction of his followers. And it is still a lot of people. And then we wonder where the sexism and misogyny rooted in the country comes from.

But you know what, I am aware. I am aware that the Sharad Yadav remark is just another topic in our daily outrage factory. Tomorrow, I and you too will move on to outrage on another topic. The only thing that will remain is the cringeworthy remarks coming from Sharad Yadav’s verbal factory.
