History remains a mystery. Mughals have ruled India for centuries, setting up forts, building cities amid territorial conquests. Recently, they have also been called ‘traitors’, with the Taj Mahal being called a ‘blot on Indian culture’.

The row over removing Mughal history last reared its head in March 2016 – following Smriti Irani urging academic bodies to erase Mughal history from school textbooks.
