It’s 2019, Why In The Heck Do We Have Shows Like ‘Dilli Darlings’?

What do we call a putrid glorification (which actually turns out to be a mockery) of the rich and the famous and their ever-so-fancy lifestyles? A show called Dilli Darlings. Yes, this is not a drill. It is a thing of nightmares. A bunch of filthy-rich women who talk about being ‘apni favourite’ and how it is their life’s biggest problem to repeat outfits. While I get the whole Kardashian-entertainment factor, it did get me thinking - why has our idea of entertainment become SO excessively shallow?

These women are mostly the wives of rich men, who spend their times travelling to China to buy ‘expensive’ dining chairs. And while I might sound like a sour rabbit, I’m just... confused at its selling factor? The arrogance on these women or the (in our humble opinion) sheer gaudiness of the entire thing? What are we as an audience suppose to take from this?

Personally, we just miss our old 90s shows. Whatever happened to talking about real human emotions and giving voice to the downtrodden? The simplicity of the human heart, the celebration of innocence? Remember the beauty of shows like Kora Kagaz that tackled the intricacies of marriage or shows like Office Office that made us laugh while simultaneously talking about the problems of employees in the public sector?

Anyhow, while the overall impact of shows like these and the kind of message they put forward is questionable (are we teaching our children to value their worth with the kind of money they have to throw around?) they’re good material for a meme or two.
