On Saturday, Noida residents organised their very own ‘Chipko Movement’. The locals tied a ‘Rakhi’ as a sign of protest against the Noida Authority who plan to cut around 3,000 trees to make city’s largest Biodiversity Park in Sector 91.
The move has not only angered the residents but also made them demand a justification from the authorities on their decision.
According to The Times of India, Noida Authority claims that the trees in the forest are very old.
As a form of protest, the locals participated in Vrikshabandhan – a joint campaign by The Quint and My Right To Breathe – and tied rakhis around trees.
