My friend Shakir Shafi and I are from Maharashtra’s Government Medical College, Aurangabad.
After clearing Class 12, I had applied for AICTE/PMSSS (Prime Minister's Special Scholarship Scheme). This scheme provides students in Kashmir with the opportunity to pursue further professional education in different colleges in India for free.
Both of us got admission in this college through AICTE/PMSSS in September 2017.
After receiving an allotment letter from AICTE (All India Council for Technical Education), I enrolled in BSC Nursing. A proper verification and all important formalities were completed. These are needed and are standard admission procedures.
A month later, we were given admission.
The college carried out every single formality, including eligibility and registration with the Maharashtra University of Health Science (MUHS) in Nasik.
The MUHS allotted us hall tickets, and we took our exams this year.
On 30 August, MUHS declared the results. But our results, for some reasons, were withheld. It remains so till this day. We have not been given any reason as to why only the results of the two of us are not being released.
If a student does not pass a subject, there is a chance to retake the test in the winters. But for that, we need to fill a form. Now, the last date to fill that form has passed. My results remain withheld, and if I, by any chance, have not cleared certain subjects, then I can lose a year. Anyway, the winter date of the exams has passed, and now, I might have to take these exams in the summer next year. That’s double the pressure because not only will I have to give the second-year exams, but also the papers that I didn’t clear.
If the results are not declared at all, I might just lose a year, which will have an adverse effect on my education.
This entire episode has been very traumatic for us.
The College’s Stand
The Quint spoke to the principal of the college, Mr Pimpalkar. According to him, the Maharashtra government needs to give permission to the university (MUHS). Only then can they declare the results. “Till now, no permission has been provided. Hence, the results are withheld,” says Pimpalkar.
What the students have now is the provisional permission, which is an interim arrangement that allows them to take exams. The results, however, can only be declared once the state government gives the green signal.
“I personally went to the ministry requesting them to declare the results. They said their results might be declared in another 10 days. We know the students’ careers are at stake, but unfortunately, the college cannot do much. This is entirely in the hands of the university,” admits Pimpalkar.
Why the Delay?
According to Pimpalkar, the ministry is checking the students’ eligibility criteria. Once the documents are cleared, the results would be declared.
Will the Submission Date be Extended?
“We’ll speak to the university once the results are declared, and request them to extend the date for the students. But right now, we can’t say anything,” says Pimpalkar.
Situation So Far
There is no update from the university or the ministry. The two students’ results are still withheld.
Ministry’s Take
The Quint spoke to Ajit Sasurkar, under secretariat, and asked him why the results of these two students are still withheld. Sasurkar clearly said he is not in the position to answer the question, and that The Quint must call the Director Dr Pravin H Shingare, Directorate of Medical Education and Research.
It’s been a week and now neither Ajit Sasurkar nor Dr. Pravin Shingare are answering The Quint’s calls.
When will Muzaffar Ahmad Mir and Shakir Shafi’s wait end? As their results remain withheld, the duo continue to live in uncertainty.
