According to the Malawian government officials, singer Madonna has been allowed to adopt four-year-old twin girls – Esther and Stella. Madonna has previously denied visiting the country for adoption purposes, even though she has adopted from Malawi before, in ’06 and ’09.

However, the Malawian public has accused the government of providing the Like A Virgin singer with preferential treatment. The laws of Malawi prevent non-residents from adopting children and taking them abroad. Thus, the girls’ birth father was present along with Madonna in the court when the judge ruled in her favour. A condition has been laid that a Malawian official will escort Madonna and the girls back to the US to observe the treatment of the girls before reporting back to the Malawian government.
