Remember the good old days of the high school sleepover? When you spent a night at a friend’s place munching popcorn, watching a movie – and then setting yourself to call on a ghost? Yes, call it the Goosebumps generation if you will, we were all pretty into the whole summoning-spirits spell.

Not a whole lot has changed even today. Hashtags and Twitter have brought about a resurgence of our childhood favourite.

Hence?

Welcome to the world of the Charlie Charlie Challenge. All this requires you to do is keep two pencils in the shape of a cross on a piece of paper, with ‘yes’ and ‘no’ written on it. Following this, you chant “Charlie Charlie, are you here?” in a continuous incantation, till – you’ve got it, the pencil moves. And if it does? Voila! You’re in the presence of a ghost. Or more specifically, a Mexican demon.

Question its veracity all you like, if Twitter’s going crazy about it, you may be sure it’s a thing.

Take a look at how the Twitterati jumped on to the “Charlie Charlie” bandwagon:
