Orchha stands true to its literal meaning - a 'hidden place.' Most tourists visiting Madhya Pradesh, like to club a trip to Orchha with a visit to Jhansi (16 km away) or Khajuraho (170 km away). But Orchha for sure deserves an exclusive trip for it has so many beautiful monuments that disclose stories of battles between kings and emperors.

Founded by Maharaja Rudra Pratap Singh in 1501, Orchha was once the capital of the Bundela Rajput kings. The way its several monuments, big and small, retain their original splendour makes this medieval city look like frozen in time. And even as the city has long been hidden away from the rush of tourists, more and more people are discovering and descending to this gem in Madhya Pradesh year after year.

Here's a sneak peek into the grandeur of the city.

Orchha is very accessible from the Jhasi Railway Station (about 16 km) by auto rikshaw which will take you through the narrow snaky roads with fields on either side leading into this little town. This road journey along with a trip to the several monuments that dot Orchha's landscape will most certainly take you back to a more peaceful time.
