1. Surging Sea Spells Terror in Ennore
As each wave thunders and batters the sea wall along their village, the residents of Chinna Kuppam, a fishing hamlet in Ennore, tremble in fear. A few like 55-year-old Kala Appavoo shriek and close their ears and eyes as the roar reaches a crescendo. The village has around 500 houses, and at least 100 of them have been damaged so far by the waves.
On Tuesday morning, water entered the homes and reached about 100 m into the village, crossing the cement concrete road.

2. CM Urged to Prove Majority
PMK youthwing leader Anbumani Ramadoss and Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi President, Thol. Thirumavalavan, on Tuesday said that Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami government should prove its majority in the floor of the house after 19 MLAs, who are supporters of AIADMK (Amma)’s deputy general secretary TTV Dhinakaran, submitted a letter withdrawing their support for the chief minister.
In a statement, Mr Anbumani Ramadoss said that the Tamil Nadu government has lost majority with 19 MLAs withdrawing their support.

3. Government Staff, Teachers Go on Strike
Over eight lakh government employees and teachers on Tuesday stopped work and held demonstrations across the State to press the State government to meet their charter of demands, including scrapping of the new pension scheme and pay revision.
The high-level committee of Joint Action Council of Teachers Organisations and Government Employees Organisations (JACTO-GEO) last month announced a one-day token strike demanding timely implementation of the Seventh Pay Commission recommendations and restoration of the old pension scheme.

4. ‘Proposal on CM an Attempt to Play the Dalit Card’
The suggestion by jailed AIADMK leader VK Sasikala’s brother Divakaran to replace Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami with Speaker P Dhanapal has triggered a debate in the party on whether the Dhinakaran camp was playing the Dalit card.
Out of the 19 MLAs who submitted letters to the Governor withdrawing their support to Mr Palaniswami, eight belong to the Scheduled Castes (SC). Of them five are from the southern districts.

5. Karti Chidambaram Asked to Approach Delhi HC
The Madras High Court on Tuesday invoked the doctrine of forum non conveniens and held that it would be appropriate if former Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram’s son Karti Chidambaram approached the Delhi High Court for quashing a First Information Report registered against him by the Central Bureau of Investigation as well as the summons issued by the agency to him in connection with the INX Media case.
Justice P Velmurugan held so while pronouncing his verdict on the question of maintainability raised by the CBI. The judge ruled that the Madras High Court had the jurisdiction to entertain the petitions filed by Mr. Karti.

6. Over 2,500 Star Tortoises Seized
The officers of Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) and Forest Protection Squad seized over 2,500 Indian star tortoises from a person in Avadi on Tuesday.
Based on a specific intelligence input, the DRI and the Forest Protection Squad of the Department of Forests conducted a joint operation on Monday that resulted in seizure of 2,515 live Indian star tortoises from the house of Thamim in Morai, near Avadi.
So far, about 10,000 live tortoises and turtles were smuggled out by the gang through Rameswaram.

7. HC Orders Compensation for 12 Year Old Girl’s Death
The Madras High Court has directed the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB) to pay compensation of Rs 6 lakh to the family of a 12-year-old schoolgirl who got electrocuted, after falling into stagnant rainwater, while returning home in her bicycle at Mahalakshmi Nagar Main Road near Thiruvottiyur on August 22, 2006.
Justice S Vaidyanathan ordered that the compensation should be paid to the victim, S Prema’s father P Siva Shakthivel, with interest at the rate of 6% per annum from the date of the accident. He also wanted the entire amount to be recovered from the officials who had visited the petitioner and assured them of granting relief.
