Now, Water and Sanitation Ministry Breaches Aadhaar Privacy

Aadhaar numbers of the Swachh Bharat Mission-Gramin beneficiaries was found to be uploaded on the ministry website.

In yet another instance of Aadhaar data being breached by the government, the Union Ministery of Water and Sanitation was found to have uploaded Aadhaar numbers of beneficiaries of the Swachh Bharat Mission-Gramin on its website, The Indian Express reported.

After news got out of the data breach got out, the details were put off the website. Anybody from the ministry was not available for comments.

In another breach of privacy that occurred on 23 April, the names, addresses, bank account details and Aadhaar numbers of over a million citizens were leaked on a website managed by the Jharkhand Directorate of Social Security.

According to Section 29 (4) of the Aadhaar Act, it is illegal to publish the Aadhaar numbers of consumers. However, the rules have been flouted in the past.

Earlier this year, former Indian cricket team captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni’s Aadhaar details were also leaked on social media, following which his wife Sakshi had taken to Twitter to reach out to Union Law and Information and Technology Minister, Ravi Shankar Prasad.
