Former India captain Mohammed Azharuddin, whose nomination papers for the post of president were rejected on Saturday, has decided to move court against the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) elections.

His nomination papers were not accepted by the returning officer because Azharuddin failed to provide proof of BCCI taking off the ban on him for allegedly being involved in match-fixing.

The BCCI had banned the cricketer for life for allegedly being involved in a match-fixing scandal in 2000. However, he was acquitted by the Andhra Pradesh High Court in 2012.

But even after the court order, the ban on Azhar wasn’t taken off by the BCCI.

During the 2009 general elections, the cricketer contested from Moradabad in Uttar Pradesh and represented the Congress as a member of Parliament. But in the 2014 general elections, Azhar lost when he contested from Rajasthan.
