India’s first museum on the Partition has finally opened its doors to the public. The museum, in Amritsar’s Town Hall building, includes photographs, personal items and news clippings, among other items from the turbulent period.
How will the museum affect Indo-Pak relations? Will it help the two countries move on? Or will it add fuel to the fire by inciting more hate for our notorious neighbour?
The Quint’s Megha Mathur and Maanvi Narcisa debate the pros and cons of having a Partition Museum. On one hand, it could serve as a reminder of a shared oppressed past under the British rule. But on the other, the Partition museum could turn into a physical tomb of hate for the atrocities of the time.
