Controversies don’t seem to leave the Aam Aadmi Party and its ministers.

In what could spell fresh trouble for the party, Delhi Health Minister Satyendra Jain has come under the income tax scanner for allegedly transferring nearly Rs 17 crore through hawala channels.

Jain has been asked to appear before the income tax department on 4 October.

Refuting the charges, Jain said that “this is not an investigation, its just a re-assessment”. He added the matter was being sensationalised by the media and that he had merely been summoned as a witness.

Jain then went on to dare the media to telecast an “expose which Arvind Kejriwal will make later this week”.

The department claims that four companies allegedly belonging to Jain – Indo Metal Impax, Akinchan Developers Pvt Ltd, Paryas Info Solution and Manglyatan Projects – illegally transferred nearly Rs 17 crore, while he received cheques issued to these companies. He purportedly used the money received to purchase property near unauthorised colonies.

Commenting on the issue, Jain said:

I had invested in these companies but I don’t have any connection with them now. Ever since I joined politics, I don’t have any connection with them.
