The Madhya Pradesh administration’s solution to prevent motorists crashing into stray animal is quite ingenious.

They have started sticking glow-in-the-dark strips on the horns of the animals to curb accidents, as the cattle wander across roads at night, AFP quoted an officer saying on Tuesday.

The move comes after a series of accidents involving the bovines, who roam freely on the roads, causing a massive traffic menace.

Many drivers injured themselves or killed the cattle after running over them at night. There was an urgent need to prevent such accidents.

The administration has already stuck orange radium reflective bands on the horns of 300 cows and bulls and the scheme according to the police has been a success.

The police further said that they now plan to purchase “permanent radium paint to cover cows’ horns, as the plastic bands only last for a few weeks.” They have also urged farmers to fix these bands on their own cattle.

According to statistics, 2015 witnessed more than 550 deaths due to accidents involving stray animals.
