Pakistan’s federal agency tasked to manage the registration database of citizens, National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA), has reportedly refused India’s claims that the terrorist captured in the Udhampur attack yesterday is a Pakistani citizen.

Official sources in India identified the captured terrorist as Mohammed Naved Yakub, son of Mohammed Yakub from Faisalabad in Pakistan, who had entered Kupwara in North Kashmir last month with four other terrorists.

The terrorist also identified himself on camera though his accounts have differed since.

Qazi Khalilullah, spokesperson for Pakistan’s Foreign Office, said that the Indian claim was baseless and added, “We have repeatedly asked India to refrain from accusations.”

NADRA claimed that Naved’s information was not found on their official records, reports Dunya News.

Incidentally, NADRA was recently accused of helping terrorists obtain fake national identity cards of Pakistan. The findings were mentioned in a report shared with NADRA’s chairman by the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).

Pakistan’s national daily The Express Tribune reports,

According to the ISI report, the agency, after a comprehensive intelligence scrutiny as part of its counter-terror operations, found many NADRA officials involved in facilitating attempts by terrorists and miscreants to obtain fake identity cards.

Even Ashraf Ghani, President of Afghanistan, reportedly holds a Pakistani identity card issued by NADRA.

The revelation was made by local leaders in Quetta, Pakistan, yesterday to highlight the level of corruption in NADRA.
