Colombia defeat Venezuela 2-1 in its first FIFA friendly since coach quit
Miami, Sep 8 (IANS) A goal by Colombian right winger Yimmi Chara at 90 minutes helped Colombia beat Venezuela 2-1 in the team's first FIFA friendly tie after the exit of coach Jose Pekerman played at the Hard Rock Stadium.
The Venezuelans were the first and fastest to score with a precise center by winger Alexander Gonzalez leaving Darwin Machis to take advantage of the move and finish it off with a goal at the 4th minute of the game on Friday.
With the Venezuelans one ahead of the Colombians, coached by Under-20 coach Arturo Reyes, they took control of the ball and tried to even out the score, reports Efe news.
led by the magic of Juan Fernando Quintero, Colombia, with moves by wingers Cristian Borja and Santiago Arias along with Juan Guillermo Cuadrado, took the ball to the area and created opportunities that put Venezuelan goalkeeper Wuilker Farinez to the test.
Farinez managed to save attempts by Carlos Bacca, Mateus Uribe and Cuadrado, who took advantage of the collective moves of his team to make strong shots that kept Farinez on his feet.
The architect of these moves was Quintero, whose remarkable passes to his companions kept Farinez under pressure.
In the second half, Colombia jumped onto the field with the same energy of the first stage and managed to tie at 55 minutes.
Finally with just 10 minutes to go for the match to end, Sebastian Villa made a center which Chara took on and after a failed attempt scored at the rebound giving the decisive victory to the Colombians.
