Tamil Nadu and Karnataka have been at loggerheads over River Cauvery for decades now. Cauvery originates in Karnataka and flows into Tamil Nadu, draining into the Bay of Bengal. But the states disagree on how to share the water.
All hell broke loose when the the Supreme Court directed Karnataka to release 15,000 cusecs of water daily for 10 days to Tamil Nadu. State-wide bandhs were ordered in the state and it was brought to a complete standstill.
With a such a violent history of protests, don’t you think that a marriage between the state-heads seems like the most plausible conclusion?
