It’s been five years since residents of Goa’s Mandrem constituency have been facing an acute shortage in water supply. Every two days, a water tanker arrives in the area, and exhausts itself even before half of the households can be served. Water supplied through taps by local municipal bodies comes every alternate day.

Keshav Jairam has been paying water bills through the course of these five years. However, her household receives little water, perhaps every alternate day.

Going about daily activities without water often becomes taxing. Local resident Pradeep Gawde, for instance, points out how difficult it becomes to take a bath before performing puja. The crisis, he says, has worsened.
