WB CM Mamata Banerjee Postpones Students' Week Event in Kolkata
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has postponed a programme organised to mark the occasion of Students' Week at Netaji Indoor Stadium, Kolkata, on Monday, 3 January, in view of the current COVID-19 situation.
Mumbai Reports 8,063 Cases
According to data provided by BMC, Mumbai reported 8,063 cases as of 2 January, a 27 percent jump from 6,347 infections reported on 1 January.
The BMC also said that Dharavi reported 60 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours. Presently, there are 179 active cases in Dharavi.
Covid Cases Spike in Bengaluru But No Major Increase in Hospitalisations
COVID-19 case have increased in Bengaluru from 269 on Dec 28 2021 to 810 on January 1 2022. But no major increase was reported in the number of hospitalisations in the city in the same period according to Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) data.

Delhi's Positivity Rate at 4.59 Percent, Current Wave Very Mild, Says CM Kejriwal
Delhi's positivity rate stood at 4.59 percent, with 3,194 Covid cases being recorded in the last 24 hours. As per the bulletin released by the state's health department, the number of containment zones in the city has risen to 1,621.
"The current wave of Covid very very mild yet the Delhi Government is fully prepared for any situation that may arise", CM Arvind Kejriwal said at a presser.
"The situation not worthy of a panic; need to maintain caution — wear masks, follow social distancing and regularly wash hands with soap", he said.
Health Ministry Refutes News Article on India Missing Vaccine Target
India’s national COVID-19 vaccination programme has been one of the most successful and largest vaccination drives when compared to the many developed western nations with a significantly low population base to vaccinate, the Union Health Ministry said in an official statement.
Refuting an article by the BBC, which said that India had missed the target of giving its entire adult population of 940 million two vaccination doses by the end of 2021, the ministry said, "This is misleading and does not represent the complete picture."
