Canada Does Not Recommend Drinking Milk Daily Anymore. Here's Why

When it comes to healthy food, milk largely tops every list.

But there's one list where the white liquid is noticeably missing - Canada's new food guide.

Yep, the guide was unveiled on Thursday, published after three years of consultations and makes no mention of milk!

What does the guide say?

According to the BBC, earlier food guides had encouraged Canadians to take three servings of dairy a day.

However, instead of having specific servings, the new guide has lumped it with fruits and veggies, alongside starches or grains and a quarter of protein.

Rather than three servings, which are fixed and regimental, this recommendation is supposed to be more intuitive, the BBC reports.

The new guide has also won appreciation from food nutritionists who had long accused the makers of the guide to adhere to the pressures of the dairy lobby. However, it has invoked ire from the dairy community which believes it will be detrimental to dairy farmers.
