A baby boy in Mumbra, Maharashtra was born ‘pregnant’ with his twin brother. Yes, you read it right! This rare condition, called ‘fetus-in-fetu’, is a developmental abnormality, and only 200 such cases have been recorded all over the world.

According to a report in the Daily Mail, the doctors found a half-formed male baby inside the healthy baby boy's stomach post his delivery.

Dr Thorat at Bilal Hospital noticed the abnormality during baby’s routine scan, nine days after his delivery on 20 July.

The baby was then taken to Titan Hospital in Thane so that the 150 gm mass could be surgically removed.

Dr Thorat said that he could see bones of the upper and lower limbs of the fetus and also a tiny head with the brain inside. But the foetus didn’t have a skull bone, the Daily Mail reported.

As per the doctors, the baby boy is healthy post his surgery.

Experts say that such cases can lead to the death of the baby. The additional foetus also gets nutrition from the same umbilical cord and thus endangers the growth of the host.
