Ajay Devgn is one of the actors who has always been part of good films - be it Gangaajal, Raincoat, Company or The Legend Of Bhagat Singh, for which he won a National Award. And now, he is all set to produce Leena Yadav’s Parched starring Tannishtha Chatterjee, Radhika Apte, Sayani Gupta and Surveen Chawla. The film opened in the Toronto Film Festival last year and has since been garnering rave reviews.

Parched is a very special film. It opened in Toronto and has been winning awards everywhere. It pushes the boundary, is fierce and is really gutsy and as actors it was fantastic to really push ourselves. It is a very unique experience to have someone like Ajay Devgn, who has balanced his career very well by working with the likes of Rituparno Ghosh, Prakash Jha and Rohit Shetty, to be one of the main producers of the film. Someone as mainstream as Ajay would help us a lot. Aamir Khan has done it for films like Peepli Live and Taare Zameen Par because if he didn’t, who would watch those films? They are great films and everyone liked them.

Chatterjee also shares why films like Angry Indian Goddesses, which struck a chord with the audience, are important.

Angry Indian Goddesses did strike a chord with most women. Today we have women who are financially independent. They want stories that represent them and engage with them. That is a very positive move. Here we are actresses and artists who are expressing ourselves and there are these women connecting with us. I think tastes are getting more diverse. There are so many of my friends who do not watch Hindi films at all because they don’t relate to it. Now we have started making films for that audience as well. We need to work on targeting and marketing the films to the right audience. It is a new arena that we are stepping into.

Tannishtha would be seen next with Brett Lee in Unindian which releases on 19 August this year. Beaming ear to ear, Tannishtha said, “Brett is not just any other cricketer but is really a legend. Somebody who is so good at one thing will never venture into another thing without being prepared and he is amazing. The character he plays is easygoing, charming, funny - basically very Brett. He is very comfortable in front of the camera as he has done innumerable ads, so I wasn’t nervous. We had a wonderful time working together.”
